TL;DR — Your MT4 or MT5 account number is the login ID your broker issued, and you can find it in the platform's login window, in the account details tab, or in your broker's client portal. You need it whenever you link an account to a cashback service so rebates are credited to the right trading account. This guide shows exactly where to find it on desktop and mobile, and what to do if you have several accounts.
What the account number actually is
Your MT4 or MT5 account number is the unique ID attached to a specific trading account at a specific broker. It is not your email, not your client portal username, and not the password you type into the terminal. It is usually a string of digits — sometimes with a letter prefix — and it is the same number you enter in the login field when you connect the platform to the broker's server.
If you trade gold (XAUUSD) or major FX pairs, you may hold more than one account: a live account, a demo account, maybe a second live account in a different base currency. Each one has its own number. When you sign up for a per-lot rebate, you link the specific account you trade, so knowing the exact digits matters. If you are new to the terminology, our glossary explains the related terms in plain English.
Finding your account number on desktop
On Windows or Mac, the fastest route is the login dialog. Open MT4 or MT5, and before you log in, the account number field is visible at the top of the window. If you are already logged in, use the Navigator panel on the left side of the screen.
- Navigator method: In the Navigator panel, expand the Accounts section. Your account number is listed next to the server name. Right-click it and choose to view details if you want the full profile.
- Terminal window: Open the Terminal panel (Ctrl+T on Windows), then click the Trade tab. The account number appears in the header row, along with balance and equity.
- Account details dialog: In MT4, go to the top menu and choose the account information option; in MT5, look under the File menu for the account details entry. The dialog shows the account number, name, server, leverage, and currency.
- Title bar: The platform window title often includes the account number after the broker name — handy when you have multiple terminals open.
Copy the number rather than retyping it. A single transposed digit is the most common reason a rebate link fails to match the right account.
Finding your account number on mobile
The mobile apps hide the number slightly differently, but it is never more than two taps away. Open the MT4 or MT5 app on iOS or Android and go to the Settings area, then open the account you are logged into.
- Settings tab: Tap Settings at the bottom, then tap the account name at the top. The account number is displayed under the account details.
- About section: In some builds, the number sits under the About or Journal section of the same screen.
- Login screen: If you log out, the saved account number is pre-filled in the login field — a quick way to read it without digging through menus.
On tablets the layout is closer to desktop, so the Navigator and Terminal panels work the same way. If you have several accounts saved in the app, tap each one in turn and note the numbers down before you start any linking process.
If you cannot find it in the platform
Sometimes the platform is not the easiest place — for example, if you have not installed it yet, or you are trading through a web terminal. In that case, go to the source: your broker.
- Client portal: Log in to your broker's dashboard. The account number is normally shown on the main accounts page next to the account type and balance.
- Welcome email: Search your inbox for the broker's original account-opening message. It almost always states the account number and server.
- Deposit or withdrawal confirmations: These routinely reference the account number.
- Support chat: If all else fails, ask support. They can confirm the number after verifying your identity.
While you are in the portal, it is worth noting the exact server name as well. Some brokers run multiple servers with similar names, and the account number alone may not be enough to identify the account.
Why the number matters when you link a rebate
A cashback service works as an introducing broker: it passes most of the broker's commission back to you as a per-lot rebate, paid daily, win or lose. To do that, it needs to know which trading account belongs to you. The account number is that identifier.
This is why accuracy matters. If you submit the wrong number, rebates may be attributed to another account or fail to register at all. If you hold accounts at several brokers, you can link each one separately — see the rate board for the brokers currently supported, and our guide on getting cashback on an existing account if you would rather not move broker.
In our view — the account number is the single most important detail in the linking process, and it is also the easiest to get wrong. Copy it from the platform, paste it into the form, and double-check the server name before submitting.
Because a rebate is paid per lot regardless of whether the trade wins or loses, it lowers your real cost on every position. That effect is small per trade and meaningful over a month of active trading. You can estimate it with the rebate calculator once your account is linked and your typical lot volume is known.
Quick checklist before you link an account
- Account number copied exactly, with no spaces or missing digits.
- Server name confirmed (live vs demo, and the correct server cluster).
- Account is live, not demo, if you want rebates credited.
- Base currency noted, especially if you hold more than one account.
- Email address on the trading account matches the one you use to register.
If you are comparing where to trade before linking, the broker comparison pages and individual broker reviews cover spreads, execution, and rebate eligibility side by side.
Where to go next
Once you know your MT4 or MT5 account number, the linking step takes a couple of minutes. Create your account, paste the number and server exactly as shown in the platform, and your per-lot rebates can start accruing from your next trades. If you want to see what you might be leaving on the table at your current broker, run your numbers through the switch calculator, or read how cashback works for the full picture before you sign up.
